What are feral cats?

The Capital Area Humane Society has for many years provided free spay/neuter services for as many established feral cat caregivers as our resources allow through the Feral Fix program. We continue to strengthen that program in order to reduce the number of feral cats in Central Ohio.  Feral Cat Fact Sheet.

Feral Fix

The Capital Area Humane Society’s Feral Fix Program is designed to support the work of feral cat caregivers by providing access to spay and neuter services for ferals involved in TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return) programs throughout Central Ohio.

· Application and appointment required.  Walk-in appointments are not available.

· The Humane Society generally designates one day each week as a “feral cat” spay and neuter day.  Trapped ferals are dropped off by their caregivers in the morning, and picked up for post surgical observation later that same day.

· Each cat receives spay or neuter surgery, as well as vaccinations and ear-tipping for future identification.

· Microchipping is also available (at the caregivers request) at the Humane Society’s cost (currently $5) for the chip, implantation and registration.

· Due to concerns of spreading dangerous viral diseases to other cats in the community, those cats that test positive for feline leukemia or FIV will be humanely euthanized while under anesthesia.

For more information or to schedule cats for surgery, email fixem@cahs-pets.org or call (614)777-7387 ext. 246.

AdvoCAT Spay/Neuter Voucher

 Program

The AdvoCAT Spay & Neuter Program helps Franklin County residents, particularly low income families or Good Samaritans who have taken in a cat, get their cat spayed or neutered.

This program is made possible by the generous support of the Franklin County Commissioners and donors to the AdvoCAT Spay & Neuter Fund.

AdvoCAT Update!  The voucher supply for 2011 has been exhausted and no further applications are being accepted.  If you are in possession of a voucher, you need to use it prior to the expiration date.

AdvoCAT Client Information Brochure

Here's how the program works:

· Veterinary clinics agree to participate in the program and honor the voucher in exchange for a free spay or neuter surgery and rabies vaccination for your cat.  The clinic is then reimbursed by the Capital Area Humane Society.

· Limited to Franklin County residents, no more than two vouchers per household per calendar year.

· Once issued, vouchers are valid for 45 days.  If your voucher expires, no further vouchers will be issued to you.
