JOIN US IN PROVIDING A
“SECOND CHANCE”
TO ANIMALS IN NEED
The Capital Area Humane Society
investigates more than 6,000 cases of heinous animal crimes each
year and provides a caring harbor for thousands of homeless and
abused animals each year. Some animals come to Capital Area Humane
Society with medical
conditions requiring specialized medical treatment in order to lead
happy and healthy lives. Because the Humane Society has no other form of funding
available to treat these animals, the Second Chance Program was
established in 2003.
Funds raised through the Second Chance Program are used specifically
for medical treatment of animals that are relinquished by their
owners to the Humane Society or rescued through our Animal Law
Enforcement program. Treatments
have included dental work, X-rays, blood work, heartworm treatment,
cardiac evaluations, tumor removal, and several surgeries. Funds
from the Second Chance Program also have been used to purchase
specialty food and shampoo, as well as medical equipment.
The Second Chance Program raises funds through the generosity of
local businesses, clubs and organizations that sponsor special
fundraising events and from individual donations made to our Second
Chance collection banks.
