The Capital Area Humane Society is
the lead agency in Franklin County
investigating cases of animal
cruelty, abuse and neglect. The
Capital Area Humane Society's
commissioned humane agents
investigated more than 7,000 reports
of animal abuse, neglect and
abandonment last year. Our "animal
cops" work hard in the field each
day to protect animals from abuse
and help families in crisis. The
Animal Cruelty Investigation Program
also includes:
- Save Haven sheltering for the pets
of victims of domestic violence.
- Humane education outreach for
children in underserved areas.
- Subsidized spay/neuter services
for feral cat caregivers in the
community.
- Emergency management planning
coordination.
The Animal Cruelty Investigations
Program is the only charitably
funded law enforcement function in
Franklin County. With very limited
government funding, the program
continues to rely on the generosity
of our community to continue to
provide these services. Annually, it
costs the Capital Area Humane
Society more than $500,000 to
investigate reports of animal abuse,
neglect and abandonment in Franklin
County, as well as provide care and
treatment for animals removed from
dangerous situations.
Thank you for running to "Defend
Your Friend"! Proceeds from this
event will specifically be used to
purchase much needed equipment for
the program, as well as support
general operating expenses.
The Annual Defend Your Friend 5K,
benefiting CAHS' Animal Cruelty
Investigations, continues to grow
each year and raise much needed
money for this important department.
Your support of this event makes a
difference in the lives of the
animals in Central Ohio.
