Puppy Love and Kitty Kisses at the CAHS February Open House

Do you need some puppy love or a kitty kiss this Valentine’s Day? Or do you have a special pet at home who you want to show how much you love them?

Don’t miss a special open house event on February 12 from 1 - 4 pm at the Capital Area Humane Society. Activities include exciting raffles, a puppy kissing booth, bake sale and spoil your pet toy sale.

All pets deserve a little pampering - learn how to give a pet massage and make nutritional pet treats. Local experts from PAWSitive Energy and Heidi's Homemade will show you how.

Select a valentine from our Tree of Love, and donate one of the wish list items on the back of each special pet valentine. Drop off your donated item in the big gift box and make a Valentine wish come true for one of our special animals.

Several of our very “special adoptables” will be at the event. Make sure to stop by and meet these wonderful animals with special needs looking for a special home.

If you are interested in adoption come meet your match with the help of our CAHS matchmaking experts that will be on hand to help you find your perfect canine or feline companion.

Help Animals in Need: Consider Virtual Adoption

Are you unable to adopt a new pet into your home, but would like to help provide for homeless animals? Then become a virtual adopter. CAHS has created a new program to help benefit our needy animals. This program is designed for CAHS friends who want to help to support our adoption programs. By sponsoring one of the animals at CAHS, you will help support their needs while they await a permanent home. Your gift will benefit all of the animals as CAHS.

Each month we will feature a different animal through the virtual adoption program. When you virtually adopt an animal, the following month we will send you an email with an update on the animal you sponsored as well as a full-sized high-resolution photo. Click here to learn more about how to make a difference through the Virtual Adoption program.

Kiko’s Story

Kiko’s Story

When I met Kiko (a.k.a. Sparky) she immediately caught my eye with her unique spots and adorable face, but then I saw how sweet and loving she was she captured my heart! Even so, I wanted to make sure I adopted the "right" dog. I spent the next few months meeting and playing with other dogs at the shelter, but I was always thinking about Kiko. I was still hesitant though... what if she didn't get along with my other dog? I decided that if Kiko was still at CAHS when I returned from spending Christmas and New Year's in Chicago, she was meant to be part of my family and I would go ahead and apply for adoption. After my holiday travel I anxiously returned to the Capital Area Humane Society. I wasn't sure if Kiko would even be there, but I visited each room and as I did, I didn't see Kiko anywhere. I was afraid she was gone. Of course I would be happy if she was adopted, but on the other hand sad because it wouldn't be me adopting her. I continued on to the last room anyway. I slowly opened the door and peeked around the corner....there she was!!! I knew at that moment that she was the "one"! I immediately applied for adoption and I was approved that evening. Kiko came home with me the next day. I can't express how wonderful it is to have Kiko in our lives. Thank you!!!!

FYI - Kiko means spot in Hawaiian.
