Like many people in our country, poor Byron lost his home not once, but twice, as a result of the current housing situation. Byron’s original family lost their home to foreclosure, and they brought the precious boy to CAHS to find a family that was in a better position to care for him. He was adopted by a wonderful family with whom he lived happily for 6 months, but sadly, they ended up moving into an apartment that would not accept canine companions as large as handsome Byron. The wonderful boy’s happy, loving, adaptable nature shines through despite his misfortune! Byron is a wonderfully sweet, friendly, loving boy who loves to cuddle and receive belly rubs (despite his size, he’s also pretty fond of relaxing on his foster dad’s lap!). He has an incredibly soft coat that makes caressing him even more enjoyable, and he loves to have his lush coat brushed! Byron is bright and responsive, and he already knows how to “come,” “sit,” “stay,” and lie “down!” He is housetrained and well-mannered, and though he is a playful fellow, he is also fairly laid back. He rides very nicely in the car. Byron’s favorite pastimes are lounging on the couch with his person while being stroked and adored and playing fetch with squeaky toys! He fetches and catches beautifully, and he also returns his toys to his person very nicely! The beautiful boy has lived harmoniously with large and small dogs, cats, and even a human infant, and he is busy getting acquainted with the resident bunny in his new foster home! Byron enjoys free run of the house in his foster home (as he did in his adoptive home), and he is always very well-behaved when left to his own devices! He can jump a low fence, so if his new yard is fenced, the fence will need to be at least 5 feet high. Byron is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because the severe heartworms he had when he arrived at the shelter the first time (for which he has been treated successfully) caused him to develop a condition known as “tracheal elevation,” an enlarged heart that pushes on his trachea. He also has a grade 4 heart murmur. The sweet boy’s new family will need to work closely with their veterinarian to ensure that Byron enjoys the best possible quality and quantity of life, and our medical staff recommends that Byron’s adopters take him for a visit with a canine cardiologist for a cardiac workup to determine whether he has any cardiac damage. Byron will also be on a special diet (he eats Science Diet K/D) for the rest of his life. Byron is currently living in a foster home, which he shares with the resident rabbit. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet handsome Byron.

Meet the shelter’s cutest playboy with the goofiest ears! Fraggle loves a good toy and has a blast in our dog run, whether just chasing down a Frisbee or playing with another canine. This sweetheart has soft fur and an even softer heart. Fraggle and his possible littermate, Strawberry, were brought to CAHS after Franklin County Dog Wardens found their owner mistreating Fraggle. Fraggle is more than happy to leave all that drama behind and be somebody’s furry Romeo now! Since our Fraggs tends to be more like a cowardly lion than a “bully”, we’re looking for a gentle and patient home to teach him the ways of the world. Our cuddly teddy bear Fraggle would love to go home with another dog who wouldn’t mind having a playmate and a shadow. We’re not quite sure what the parents of Fraggle could have possibly looked like, but perhaps they were also somewhat unidentifiable (but no less adorable!) bully breed mixes themselves. So Fraggs is a proud representative of all the other Columbus Bully Mutt dogs out there too! Woof woof! Fraggs has landed a highly coveted spot in foster care where he has several canine buddies to keep him company. He’s working on his housebreaking and is doing great. Marshmallow Fraggs is a member of our selective pit bull adoption program and as such there are some special adoption requirements. As with all our Bully Breed members, he comes with a lifetime of free training through our Bully Breed training classes. If you’re interested in setting up an appointment to meet Fraggle or to learn more about adopting him, please contact Amanda.spires@gmail.com.

Pit Bull |

Meet Tank! This bouncy boy is as happy as they come. Tank has a blast meeting new canine friends! He enjoys others dogs all the way from the extra large to the extra tiny ones (though some of his canine buds might say he’s a little too exuberant for them). And as a wonderful ambassador to his breed, every new face is a new best friend—his tail just never stops wagging hello. This youngster’s owner fell on some hard times and was forced to give him up. Although he’s been through a few changes in his short life, Tank has taken them all in stride. He’s always got his party hat on and looking for some fun! Tank previously lived with another dog and enjoys the companionship so much that we are looking for a home that already has a buddy for him to pal around with. A fenced yard would be a big plus for this guy to blow off some steam as well as amuse his family with some serious zoomies. Tank is looking for a family that shares his same zest for life. Could it be yours? Tank is a member of our selective pit bull adoption program, so he’s got some additional requests for his furever family. Rest assured--Tank says he’s well worth any extra effort! Also, as a member of this special group, Tank comes with a lifetime of free training through our pit bull only training classes. If you’d like to learn more about Tank, please contact Amanda.spires@gmail.com.

She is timid with new people, but she warms up to those who take the time to get to know her. Once comfortable with her human friends, lovely Lady becomes friendly and affectionate with them and she loves to sit close beside her pals while they caress her and stroke her beautiful coat! Lady is housetrained and she is very easy to walk. She is a great passenger when riding in the car, and she is very well-behaved in her kennel! Bright young Lady already knows how to “come” and “sit!” She enjoys playing with toys, and “fetch” is her favorite game! Lady lived beautifully with the very young child, the cats, and the other dog in her previous home! She has been sweet with the dogs she’s met at the shelter, though she is timid with strange dogs just as she is with strange humans. She is looking for a family to see the beautiful soul peering out from her gorgeous face and provide her with a patient, loving home where she can continue to blossom. Lady is currently living in a foster home, where she enjoys the company of 3 other dogs. Lady is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because of her timidity. Her new family will need to provide her with ongoing socialization and lots of positive reinforcement to help her become comfortable with new people and situations. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet beautiful Lady.

Rossi was abandoned by her previous owners, and she is looking for a family
to love and care for her forever. Rossi is happy, affectionate, and loving!
She is timid with new people, but she warms up to those who take the time to
get to know her. Once she’s familiar with her human pals, her joyful,
wiggle-butt nature shines through! Her friends know her as a friendly,
playful cuddle bug! Rossi was best friends with the other dog in her
previous home, and she has been very sweet, though a little shy, with the
dogs she’s met at CAHS (she’s happy to hang out with dogs of all sizes, from
tiny to large!). She would love to live with a canine companion! Rossi
seems to be housetrained, and she walks nicely on a leash. She is very
bright, and she already responds nicely to “come,” “sit,” and “stay!” The
lovely canine genius even offers a “sit” on her own regularly to earn the
tasty treats, petting, and praise she so adores! Rossi is a member of the
Special Adoptables Program because of her timidity. She is working with our
volunteers to overcome this, and she is doing great! She is blossoming into
a happy, playful lovebug! Her new family will need to provide her with
ongoing socialization and lots of positive reinforcement to help her become
comfortable with new people and situations. Please e-mail
