|
Sex:
Spayed Female
|
Age:
7 months
|
|
Breed:
Pit Bull |
Weight:

Puppy puppy!! Princess lives up to her name… and then some! This wriggle butt loves to meet new people (adults and children) and seeks out new friends whenever she can. Her Highness is just returning from a few weeks in foster care, where she gave the resident dogs quite a run for their money. Princess P loves to play and has all the energy one would expect from a happy, healthy and normal baby dog. She can be a bit of a tomboy in her play-style with other dogs, so it’s no surprise she handily held her own with a canine playmate twice her size! Smart Princess goes potty outdoors when given the chance and learned to alert her foster family when it was time to go out. Princess did well with crate training with the aid of delicious toys to keep her busy while alone. Since Princess has a tendency to be vocal (like greeting you when you come home), she may not be suitable for those with close and easily peeved neighbors, who don’t appreciate her vibrant personality. Princess is a member of the Bully Breed program, and as such, some special adoption requirements apply. CAHS’s Bully Breed Education Classes, free to Bully Breed alumni, are a great way to help Princess and her new humans start off on the right paw. To arrange to meet Princess P, please contact Amanda.spires@gmail.com.

Sex:
Spayed Female
|
Age:
6 years
|
|
Breed:
Pug/Shepherd Mix |
Weight:

Gorda’s previous family added a new member who was allergic to her, so she came to CAHS to find a family who would love and care for her forever. Gorda is wonderfully sweet, friendly, affectionate, and gentle! She is a happy girl who loves to roll in the grass for the sheer joy of it, and her charming smile lights up her face almost all the time! Gorda is housetrained, and she is wonderful on a leash! She is always ready to do whatever her people enjoy, whether that means taking long walks and enjoying lots of activity or simply sitting together and relaxing on the couch or in the sun! Her laid back, yet peppy nature is absolutely delightful! Gorda is very responsive, and she already knows how to “come,” "sit," “shake,” and lie "down!" She loves to practice her commands and learn new things, especially when she is working for delicious treat rewards (she especially loves hot dog pieces!). Gorda is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she does not like other dogs and she tends to herd young children. She is available to families without canine companions and with children over the age of 12. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet wonderful Gorda.

Name:
HAWK
|
CAHS #:
D07-168946
|
|
Sex:
Neutered Male
|
Age:
5 years
|
|
Breed:
Chow/Border Collie mix |
Weight:
37 lbs
|
Hawk was rescued from a neglectful home by our humane officers, and he is looking for a family to provide him with the loving care he so deserves. Hawk is a wonderful teddy bear of a boy! He is extremely friendly, happy, loving, and responsive, and he forms an immediate friendship with everyone he meets! His sweet smile lights up his face all the time, and he loves to be cuddled and caressed! Hawk is very attentive and intelligent, and he loves to learn new things (he especially loves to work for tasty treat rewards!). He already knows how to “sit,” “shake,” and lie “down,” and he is learning how to “stay!” He will even offer a “sit” on his own to earn the petting and treats he so adores! Hawk is an active boy who loves to take walks with his human friends! He walks nicely on a leash, and he wonderfully attentive to his human walking companions! He is an excellent passenger when riding in the car, and he is very well-behaved when he is being bathed and brushed! Poor Hawk lived outdoors before arriving at CAHS, so he will need a consistent, positive housetraining routine to help him succeed in his new home (he does beautifully with his potty training at the shelter – he never potties in his kennel and he always pees and poops outside when he goes out for walks!). Hawk is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he does not like other dogs (though he did very well with the extra large female dog with whom he visited for several days, and the wonderfully responsive boy does not display any aggression toward the dogs he sees when he is out walking). He is available to households where he will be the only canine companion, and to families with children ages 14 and up. Sweet Hawk, who never received loving attention before he arrived at the shelter, thrives on the well-deserved petting, cuddling, praise, and treat rewards he receives from his admirers. As a result, our handsome friend can be persistent in trying to solicit these things at times, but he responds very well to gentle (but firm) correction and redirection from his volunteer friends. Hawk’s new family should be experienced in working through issues like mouthing and jumping so that they can continue to use positive training techniques to work with him in this regard. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet honey pie Hawk.

|
Sex:
Neutered Male
|
Age:
3 years
|
|
Breed:
Lab Mix |
Weight:
56 lbs
|
Kingsley was abandoned by his original owner, and he is looking for a family to love and care for him forever. Kingsley is an incredibly sweet, friendly, happy boy with a tail that is always wagging! He is extremely loving and responsive, and he loves to cuddle! Kingsley is very bright, and he already knows how to "come," "sit," and "shake!" He loves to practice his commands and learn new things (he is currently learning how to "stay"), especially when he is working for delicious treat rewards! Kingsley is very active and playful, and he loves to play with squeaky toys! He also loves to run – he would probably make a fabulous running partner! Kingsley seems to be housebroken, and he is very well-behaved in his kennel. As an exuberant young boy, handsome Kingsley will need some consistent training to improve his leash etiquette. Kingsley has been great with the other dogs he’s met at the shelter (he loves to run and play with his furry friends!), though he can be a bit nervous when he first meets some of them (particularly those who are very exuberant). If his new family has other dogs living in their home, they will need to use positive reinforcement to help him become comfortable with them. He would do best in a home without cats. Kingsley is looking for a home with a fenced yard in which he can enjoy daily off-leash exercise, and he would probably enjoy a canine companion or two with whom to run and play. He is available to families with children ages 10 and up. Kingsley is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he climbed over the fence in his previous adoptive home in order to go for a run. His new family will either need to have a privacy fence or commit to keeping him safely supervised at all times when he is outdoors until they are sure he will remain safely in the yard when he is outside by himself. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet handsome Kingsley.

Dancer is slim and graceful just as her name describes. She is full of energy and loves lots of activity. She's had many fun walks here at CAHS, running and rolling in the grass! She also loves to play with other dogs, and she is wonderful with all the dogs at the daycare she attends! She is a wonderful passenger when she is riding in the car. If you come to meet Dancer and she jumps at her door, she immediately will calm down when the door is opened. She is very easy to walk on a leash and when she recently went to Pet Smart for Adoption Day, she was very sweet and docile even with all the noise and people and other dogs. She made us laugh when she climbed into one of the folding chairs to have a rest. Dancer is a truly wonderful dog. Please come and meet her in room F.

Sunshine was rescued from a neglectful home by our humane officers, and she is looking for a family to provide her with the loving care she so deserves. Sunshine is a wonderfully gentle, sweet, well-mannered girl! She is very loving, and she adores cuddling and being petted! Sunshine is bright and responsive, and she already knows how to "sit!" She will even offer this polite behavior on her own in anticipation of the petting, praise and tasty treats she might (and usually does!) receive as rewards! Sunshine is housebroken, and she walks nicely on a leash. She was very well-behaved in her kennel at the shelter, and she is a very good girl in her foster home, where she enjoys free run of the house when her people are not home! Sunshine is a playful girl who enjoys running through the tunnel in the CAHS dog run! Sunshine loves to meet and play with other dogs, and she loves to sleep in bed with her foster mom and furry foster brother! She would do best in a home without cats. Beautiful Sunshine truly lives up to her name - she is sure to brighten the life of her lucky adopter with her sunny nature and charm! Sunshine is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she was uncomfortable with the constant stream of strangers who passed her kennel when she was on the adoption floor. Her new family will need to provide her with ongoing socialization and exposure to new places and things using lots of positive reinforcement. Sunshine is currently living in a foster home, where she enjoys the company of another dog. She would especially love to live with a canine companion or two! A dog on the move! Lady received her first name from the humane agent that rescued her and the second by her volunteer buddies that noticed her penchant for "partying like a rockstar." This girl knows how to have a good time and isn't afraid to show it! Lady RS is off-site at a kennel showing the boarding and grooming clients how to have F-U-N! This is what her kennel mom had to say, "If it is adventure you have in mind she will be thrilled to be in your life. Lady is a tomboy to the core, she always has something to say or something to offer in entertainment value, this girl is smart and fast and enjoys the company and attention of the same personality type of dog, she is not "hyper" but she is rowdy in a fun way, one of those girls who would prefer a flannel and hiking boots instead of a formal gown for an elegant evening. If she were human she would always be 10 minutes early." Lady is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she has some physical traits that resemble those of American Pit Bull Terriers, though that does not appear to be her predominant breed (she seems to be quite the mutt!). Lady Rockstar wants to know, are you looking for a pal to explore the world with? To arrange to meet Lady Rockstar, please contact specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org.

Soldier’s previous owners lost their jobs and could not longer afford to
take care of their dogs, so Soldier came to CAHS to find a family that would
love and care for him forever. Soldier can be a little bit timid and shy
with new people and things, but he warms up very quickly and becomes quite a
little love bug! He is very loving and affectionate, and he loves to cuddle
and have his belly rubbed! He is also playful and active (he particularly
loves to play with plush toys!). He was very good with the young children
in his previous home! Soldier is a bright little fellow who learns very
quickly! He loves to practice his commands and learn new things (especially
when he is working for fabulous treats!), and he already knows how to
“come,” "sit" "shake," and lie “down!” He walks very nicely on a leash.
Soldier originally lived as an inside dog and he is doing very well with his
potty training at CAHS, but because he lived outside before coming to the
shelter, he will benefit from a consistent, positive housetraining routine
in his new home. Soldier lived beautifully with the other dog in his
previous home! Though he was nervous around the unfamiliar dogs he met when
he first arrived at the shelter, he has blossomed a great deal in this area
and he loves to play with his new furry friends! He is fabulous with all
the other dogs at the dog park he attends! Soldier is a member of the
Special Adoptables Program because he has some physical traits that resemble
those of Pit Bull Terriers, though that does not appear to be his
predominant breed (he is quite an all-American mix!). Please e-mail

Lucy was not good with the cats in her original home, so she came to CAHS to find a forever family who is better suited for her. Lucy is an extremely friendly, happy, wiggle butt of a girl who loves everyone she meets! She lived beautifully with young children in her previous home, and she was wonderful with her canine brother as well! She has been absolutely fabulous with all the dogs she’s met at CAHS and at the daycare and the dog park she attends, whether they are large or small, puppy or senior, and everything in between! Lucy is bright and responsive, and she already knows how to “sit!” She is housebroken and crate trained, and she loves to take rides in the car! As a big, strong girl, lovely Lucy will need some consistent training to improve her leash etiquette. Lucy is active and playful, and she loves to play fetch with squeaky toys! She would do best in a home in which she can enjoy plenty of off-leash exercise. Lucy is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she liked to jump her previous adopter’s 4-foot fence, and she displayed destructive chewing behavior in their home when she was not being supervised. Providing sweet Lucy with the positive training, exercise, and attention that all dogs need and deserve (as well as plenty of toys!) will help her maintain her success, as will crating her when her people are not at home. If her new family’s yard is fenced, the fence must be at least 6 feet tall (she was very successful with this in her original home). She is available to families without cats and to households in which she will have a canine companion with whom to hang out and play at all times. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet lovely Lucy.

This gentle girl is just waiting for her new family to whisk her away so she can catch up on some serious snuggle time. Dora found her way to CAHS when humane agents picked her up as an abandoned dog. Dora’s full story was later learned. Sadly, Dora had not been intentionally abandoned, but orphaned after her owner lost their life in a car accident. Dora is now ready to start a new and happy chapter in her life. Her sweetness is simply irresistible as well as her curiously soft fur and wrinkly mug. Sometimes shy, always adorable, Dora may succeed in a home with cats due to her soft, I-only-want-to-please-you nature. Dora lived as the only dog in her previous home and we think she would prefer to keep it that way! While Dora enjoys the company of other dogs, she may not live well with other dogs. She’s well on her way to being fully housebroken and crate-trained. Dora’s perfect home will help her explore the many wonderful things this world has to offer. Our Bully Breed Education Classes, free for CAHS Bully Breed graduates, are a great way to start. Dora is a member of the Bully Breed program, and as such, there are some special adoption requirements. To arrange to meet Dora the Adorable, please contact Amanda.spires@gmail.com.

Belle was rescued from the home of a hoarder in Perry County who abandoned her along with many other dogs and a cat, and she is looking for a family to provide her with the loving care she so deserves. Belle is beautiful inside and out! She is incredibly sweet and loving, and she loves to cuddle! Belle is a delightfully happy little girl who is friendly to everyone she meets! She has also been fabulous with the other dogs she’s met at CAHS, from the very small to the very large, and everything in between! Belle has a truly lovely nature – she can be quite laid back and happy to relax with her friends, but she also loves to play! Belle is very easy to walk, and she is also well-behaved in her kennel! She is doing very well with her housetraining at the shelter, but because she came from such an unhappy environment, her new family should provide her with a consistent, positive housetraining routine to ensure the darling girl’s success. Belle is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because our medical staff discovered an abdominal mass containing the mummified remains of several puppies at the time of her spay. The mass was surgically removed and sweet Belle has recovered very nicely, but because it was necessary to remove her spleen during this surgery as well, she will need ongoing veterinary monitoring (with vet visits every 6 to 12 months) to ensure her long term health and well-being. Belle is currently living in a foster home, where she enjoys the company of 2 other dogs. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet beautiful Belle.

He is currently learning how to “shake” and “heel.” Boon is very active and playful, and though he hasn’t yet caught onto games like “fetch”, he loves to engage in interactive play with his people! He also loves to play with other dogs (he is great with all the dogs at the daycare and the dog park he attends!). He has a great time running through the tunnel in the CAHS dog run, too (he’d probably love to participate in agility classes!). Boon is doing very well with his housetraining at the shelter, but because he came from such an unhappy environment, his new family should provide him with a consistent, positive housetraining routine to ensure the precious boy’s success. Boon is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he can be mouthy when he doesn’t get adequate exercise and attention. Age:

Breed:
Beagle |
Weight:

Charlie’s previous home had a yard that flooded constantly, which his family realized was unsuitable for him when he was outdoors, so he came to CAHS to find a forever home that would provide him with a better environment. Charlie is enormously sweet, gentle, calm, and well-mannered! He can be a bit timid with strangers, but he warms up quickly and he is very friendly, playful, and happy with his friends! Charlie is very loving, and he loves to cuddle! He enjoyed sleeping in bed with his parents in his former home. Charlie is friendly to both adults and children (though he is not comfortable with toddlers due to the sudden movements they so frequently make) – he lived beautifully with the children in his previous home! He has been great with the other dogs he’s met at CAHS, too, from the very small to the very large and everything in between! He’s also wonderful with the other dogs at the daycare he attends, and he was fabulous with everyone he met (human and canine) on a recent outing! Charlie is housebroken and he is very easy to walk (true to his breed, he loves to stop and smell the roses as he strolls along with his person!). He is crate trained (though his previous family said he didn’t really care for his crate), and he is a very good passenger when riding in the car! Charlie already knows how to “sit,” “shake,” and “beg,” and he loves to wow his admirers by demonstrating his tricks (especially when he is working for delicious treat rewards – he particularly likes pieces of pizza crust!). Charlie’s previous family told us that he was allergic to pork and lamb, so his new family will need to ensure that his food does not include these ingredients. He is available to families with children ages 5 and up. Charlie is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he was uncomfortable when our medical staff examined his head (he was taking medication for an infected sebaceous gland on top of his noggin, which has healed nicely). He is never bothered at all when his volunteer friends caress his handsome head (this didn’t bother him even when his head was sore!). Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet precious Charlie.

George was rescued from the home of a hoarder in Perry County who abandoned him along with many other dogs and a cat, and he is looking for a family to provide him with the loving care he so deserves. George is an amazingly sweet, loving boy who loves to cuddle and be caressed! He is very friendly, happy, and responsive, and he adores being close to his people (he’s quite a charming leaner!). George has been wonderful with both the children and the adults he’s encountered at the shelter! He has also been great with the other dogs he’s met at CAHS, and he’s wonderful with all the dogs at the daycare and the dog park he attends! George is active and playful (he loves to run and play in the CAHS dog run!). He would do best in a home in which he can enjoy plenty of off-leash exercise (though he is pretty mellow as long as he gets a good play session in each day, so he may turn out to be quite the couch potato in his home as long as his exercise needs are met!). Having never received the loving care that all dogs deserve before he arrived at the shelter, wonderful George will need some consistent training to improve his leash etiquette. He is doing very well with his housetraining at the shelter, but because he came from such an unhappy environment, his new family should provide him with a consistent, positive housetraining routine to ensure the precious boy’s success. George is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he tested as having food aggression when he arrived at CAHS. He is working with our volunteers to overcome this, and he is doing great! He does not display any aggression even when his human friends pet his handsome face and head as he eats, place their hands in his food bowl and his mouth while he is eating, or take his food bowl away from him! Breed:

Gracie’s previous owner graduated from college and was working too many hours to provide appropriate care for her, so she came to CAHS to find a family who would love and care for her forever. Gracie is a sweet, friendly girl who loves to cuddle and receive belly rubs! She is a wonderful, easy going, yet playful companion who enjoys doing pretty much anything with her people, from taking longs walks and or enjoying an active play session to lounging together on the couch. Gracie can be both a lover girl and an independent lady – she alternated between sharing the bed with her former owner and sleeping on a pet bed, and she slept happily either way! She enjoyed free run of the house when her former owner was not home, and she was always a very good girl! Gracie is housetrained and crate trained, and she is easy to walk. She is an excellent passenger when riding in the car! Gracie is a bright little lady who already knows how to “come,” “sit,” “stay,” and lie “down!” She has been wonderful with the other dogs she’s met at the shelter (though she prefers to hang out with dogs who are fairly laid back than with those who are “paws on” in their play)! Gracie is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because her skin gets irritated at times. It’s possible that she may have allergies of some sort (flea allergies, seasonal allergies, or food allergies), so her new family will need to discuss this with their vet. Gracie’s former owner gave her vitamins for dry skin, and she just started taking Omega fatty acids at the shelter, so this may help to resolve the problem. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet beautiful Gracie.

Peanut’s previous owners had serious health problems that made it too difficult for them to care for her, so she came to CAHS to find a family that would love and care for her forever. Peanut is an amazingly sweet, happy, loving, and affectionate girl who loves to cuddle and receive belly rubs! She is quite the little lap dog, and her favorite pastimes are relaxing in her person’s arms and curling up at her person’s side (she also enjoyed sleeping with her parents in her previous home!). Peanut is a very versatile little girl - despite her cuddly nature, she is also very playful, and she enjoys taking long walks, rolling in the grass for the sheer joy of it, and running and playing! Peanut is housetrained, and she is very easy to walk. She is also crate trained, and she is an excellent passenger when riding in the car! She is a very good girl when she is being brushed (though this isn’t one of her most beloved activities!). Peanut has lived nicely with other dogs and she seems to like many of the dogs she meets at the shelter, but she is not comfortable with all of them (she prefers dogs who are gentle in their greetings and their play rather than those who are more exuberant and “paws on”). If her new family has other dogs living in their home, they will need to use positive reinforcement to help her become comfortable with them. Peanut is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she tested as having food aggression when she arrived at CAHS. She is working with our volunteers to overcome this, and she is doing great! She does not display any aggression even when her human friends pet her lovely face and head as she eats, place their hands in her food bowl and her mouth while she is eating, or take her food bowl away from her! Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet precious Peanut.
