  Name: PRINCESS

CAHS #: P08-175149

  Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 7 months

  Breed: Pit Bull

Weight: 40 lbs

Puppy puppy!! Princess lives up to her name… and then some! This wriggle butt loves to meet new people (adults and children) and seeks out new friends whenever she can. Her Highness is just returning from a few weeks in foster care, where she gave the resident dogs quite a run for their money. Princess P loves to play and has all the energy one would expect from a happy, healthy and normal baby dog. She can be a bit of a tomboy in her play-style with other dogs, so it’s no surprise she handily held her own with a canine playmate twice her size! Smart Princess goes potty outdoors when given the chance and learned to alert her foster family when it was time to go out. Princess did well with crate training with the aid of delicious toys to keep her busy while alone. Since Princess has a tendency to be vocal (like greeting you when you come home), she may not be suitable for those with close and easily peeved neighbors, who don’t appreciate her vibrant personality. Princess is a member of the Bully Breed program, and as such, some special adoption requirements apply. CAHS’s Bully Breed Education Classes, free to Bully Breed alumni, are a great way to help Princess and her new humans start off on the right paw. To arrange to meet Princess P, please contact Amanda.spires@gmail.com.

  Name: CORA

CAHS #: D04-127047

  Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 6 years

  Breed: Pug/Shepherd Mix

Weight: 46 lbs

Cora’s previous family added a new member who was allergic to her, so she came to CAHS to find a family who would love and care for her forever. Cora is wonderfully sweet, friendly, affectionate, and gentle! She is a happy girl who loves to roll in the grass for the sheer joy of it, and her charming smile lights up her face almost all the time! Cora is housetrained, and she is wonderful on a leash! She is always ready to do whatever her people enjoy, whether that means taking long walks and enjoying lots of activity or simply sitting together and relaxing on the couch or in the sun! Her laid back yet fun-loving nature is absolutely delightful! Cora is very well-mannered and responsive, and she already knows how to “come,” "sit," “shake,” and lie "down!" She loves to practice her commands and learn new things, especially when she is working for delicious treat rewards (she especially loves hot dog pieces!), and she is currently practicing "heel." She is an excellent passenger when riding in the car! Cora is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she does not like other dogs and she tends to herd young children. She is available to families without canine companions and with children over the age of 12. She would do best in a home without cats. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet wonderful Cora.

  Name: HAWK

CAHS #: D07-168946

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 5 years

  Breed: Chow/Border Collie mix

Weight: 37 lbs

Hawk was rescued from a neglectful home by our humane officers, and he is looking for a family to provide him with the loving care he so deserves. Hawk is a wonderful teddy bear of a boy! He is extremely friendly, happy, loving, and responsive, and he forms an immediate friendship with everyone he meets! His sweet smile lights up his face all the time, and he loves to be cuddled and caressed! Hawk is very attentive and intelligent, and he loves to learn new things (he especially loves to work for tasty treat rewards!). He already knows how to “sit,” “shake,” and lie “down,” and he is learning how to “stay!” He will even offer a “sit” on his own to earn the petting and treats he so adores! Hawk is an active boy who loves to take walks with his human friends! He walks nicely on a leash, and he is wonderfully attentive to his human walking companions! He is an excellent passenger when riding in the car, and he is very well-behaved when he is being bathed and brushed! Poor Hawk lived outdoors before arriving at CAHS, so he will need a consistent, positive housetraining routine to help him succeed in his new home (he does beautifully with his potty training at the shelter – he never potties in his kennel and he always pees and poops outside when he goes out for walks!). Handsome Hawk appears never to have been exposed to other dogs before coming to the shelter, and he did not particularly like members of his own species when he arrived. His volunteer friends have been working with him, and he has made tremendous progress! Though he has not yet graduated to off-leash play with his canine pals at the shelter, he plays nicely off leash with a dog with whom he's enjoyed several overnight visits, and he enjoys meeting, interacting, and walking with the dogs he meets at CAHS! Hawk is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he will need a little extra training to become the well-behaved companion he will someday be. Sweet Hawk, who never received loving attention before he arrived at the shelter, thrives on the well-deserved petting, cuddling, praise, and treat rewards he receives from his admirers. As a result, our handsome friend can be persistent in trying to solicit these things at times, but he responds very well to gentle (but firm) correction and redirection from his volunteer friends. Hawk’s new family should be experienced in working through issues like mouthing and jumping up so that they can continue to use positive training techniques to work with him in this regard (he’s been a very good boy on overnight visits with a volunteer pal!). He is available to families with children ages 14 and up, and he would do best in a home without cats. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet honey pie Hawk.

  Name: KINGSLEY

CAHS #: D07-172127

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 3 years

  Breed: Lab Mix

Weight: 56 lbs

Kingsley was abandoned by his original owner, and he is looking for a family to love and care for him forever. Kingsley is an incredibly sweet, friendly, happy boy with a tail that is always wagging! He is extremely loving and responsive, and he loves to cuddle! Kingsley is very bright, and he already knows how to "come," "sit," and "shake!" He loves to practice his commands and learn new things (he is currently learning how to "stay"), especially when he is working for delicious treat rewards! Kingsley is very active and playful, and he loves to play with squeaky toys! He also loves to run – he would probably make a fabulous running partner! Kingsley seems to be housebroken, and he is very well-behaved in his kennel. As an exuberant young boy, handsome Kingsley will need some consistent training to improve his leash etiquette. Kingsley has been great with the other dogs he’s met at the shelter (he loves to run and play with his furry friends!), though he can be a bit nervous when he first meets some of them (particularly those who are very exuberant). If his new family has other dogs living in their home, they will need to use positive reinforcement to help him become comfortable with them. He would do best in a home without cats. Kingsley is looking for a home with a fenced yard in which he can enjoy daily off-leash exercise, and he would probably enjoy a canine companion or two with whom to run and play. He is available to families with children ages 10 and up. Kingsley is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he climbed over the fence in his previous adoptive home in order to go for a run. His new family will either need to have a privacy fence or commit to keeping him safely supervised at all times when he is outdoors until they are sure he will remain safely in the yard when he is outside by himself. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet handsome Kingsley.

  Name: LADY ROCKSTAR

CAHS #: P06-158527

  Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 1.5 years

  Breed: Cross Breed

Weight: 45 lbs

A dog on the move! Lady received her first name from the humane agent that rescued her and the second by her volunteer buddies that noticed her penchant for "partying like a rockstar." This girl knows how to have a good time and isn't afraid to show it! Lady RS is off-site at a kennel showing the boarding and grooming clients how to have F-U-N! This is what her kennel mom had to say, "If it is adventure you have in mind she will be thrilled to be in your life. Lady is a tomboy to the core, she always has something to say or something to offer in entertainment value, this girl is smart and fast and enjoys the company and attention of the same personality type of dog, she is not "hyper" but she is rowdy in a fun way, one of those girls who would prefer a flannel and hiking boots instead of a formal gown for an elegant evening. If she were human she would always be 10 minutes early." Lady is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she has some physical traits that resemble those of American Pit Bull Terriers, though that does not appear to be her predominant breed (she seems to be quite the mutt!). Lady Rockstar wants to know, are you looking for a pal to explore the world with? To arrange to meet Lady Rockstar, please contact specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org.

  Name: WILBUR

CAHS #: D08-176279

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 2 years

  Breed: Coon Hound

Weight: 70 lbs

Wilbur was rescued by a good samaritan from an unsuitable home. He is a curious guy who, like many hounds, loves to sniff and follow his nose. He is strong and doesn't seem to have much experience walking on a leash. He is a little shy here at the shelter but regains his confidence when he can be out in the fresh air where he can get some exercise. Wilbur loves to meet and play with other dogs, and he is great with all the other dogs at the dog park and the doggy daycare he attends! He is available to homes without cats or other small, furry critters. Wilbur will need a dental cleaning in the near future.

  Name: GRACE

CAHS #: D08-175864

  Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 3 years

  Breed: Corgi/Chow mix

Weight: 34 lbs

Grace was rescued from a neglectful home by our humane officers, and she is looking for a family to provide her with the loving care she so deserves. Grace is a sweet, gentle, timid girl who is shy with new people, but she warms up to people who take the time to get to know her. Once she’s had a chance to become comfortable with her new human acquaintances, she becomes very friendly and affectionate! Grace loves to cuddle and be caressed, and she also loves to play! She delights in learning new things (especially when she is working for delicious treats!), and she already knows how to “sit” and “shake!” Grace is very good on a leash, and she loves to take walks with her human friends! She is housetrained and crate trained. Grace is always excited to meet and greet new dogs, though she does not live well with them. She also prefers to be “one of the girls,” warming up to women more easily than she does to men. Grace is looking for a small, adult, female family in a quiet household, where she can be the “only child” (no children, cats, or other dogs). Grace is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because of the nervousness she exhibited when she arrived at CAHS. She is working with our volunteers to overcome this, and she is doing great! Her new family will need to provide her with ongoing socialization and exposure to new places and things using lots of positive reinforcement. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet beautiful Grace.

  Name: DORA

CAHS #: D07-174488

  Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 1 year

  Breed: Pit Bull

Weight: 45 lbs

This gentle girl is just waiting for her new family to whisk her away so she can catch up on some serious snuggle time. Dora found her way to CAHS when humane agents picked her up as an abandoned dog. Dora’s full story was later learned. Sadly, Dora had not been intentionally abandoned, but orphaned after her owner lost their life in a car accident. Dora is now ready to start a new and happy chapter in her life. Her sweetness is simply irresistible as well as her curiously soft fur and wrinkly mug. Sometimes shy, always adorable, Dora may succeed in a home with cats due to her soft, I-only-want-to-please-you nature. Dora lived as the only dog in her previous home and we think she would prefer to keep it that way! While Dora enjoys the company of other dogs, she may not live well with other dogs. She’s well on her way to being fully housebroken and crate-trained. Dora’s perfect home will help her explore the many wonderful things this world has to offer. Our Bully Breed Education Classes, free for CAHS Bully Breed graduates, are a great way to start. Dora is a member of the Bully Breed program, and as such, there are some special adoption requirements. To arrange to meet Dora the Adorable, please contact Amanda.spires@gmail.com.

  Name: GARY OWEN

CAHS #: D08-176552

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 3 years

Breed: Treeing Walker/Blue Tick Coonhound mix

Weight: 44 lbs

Gary Owen was rescued from the home of a hoarder in Perry County who abandoned him along with many other dogs and a cat, and he is looking for a family to provide him with the loving care he so deserves. Gary is a sweet, loving boy who is very shy with new people, but he warms up to those who take the time to get to know him. Once he becomes comfortable with his human friends, he enjoys being caressed and receiving belly rubs, and he becomes quite playful as well! He especially loves to play with plush toys! Though shy with people, Gary absolutely loves other dogs, and he truly blossoms when he has a canine friend with whom to walk or play! He is wonderful with all the other dogs at the dog park he attends! He also loves to swim in the pond at the dog park! He enjoys having his ears cleaned, too! Gary is active and playful (he loves to run and play in the CAHS dog run with his furry friends!). He would do best in a home in which he can enjoy plenty of off-leash exercise (he is very well-behaved in his kennel and he is pretty laid back at the shelter overall, so he may turn out to be quite the couch potato in his home as long as his exercise needs are met!). Gary already knows how to “sit,” and he loves to work for tasty treat rewards! He is very easy to walk (he especially enjoys walking with a canine pal!). Gary is doing very well with his housetraining at the shelter, but because he came from such an unhappy environment, his new family should provide him with a consistent, positive housetraining routine to ensure the wonderful boy’s success. Gary is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because of his timidity. His new family will need to provide him with ongoing socialization and lots of positive reinforcement to help him become comfortable with new people and situations. Gary is available to households in which he will have a canine companion to keep him company and help him continue to blossom. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet handsome Gary.

  Name: JASON

CAHS #: D08-178304

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 1 year

  Breed: Lab/Golden Retriever mix

Weight: 60 lbs

Jason came to CAHS from the Franklin County Dog Shelter in hopes of finding a new home. Jason is extremely bright, happy, playful, and friendly! He learns very quickly (especially when he is working for yummy treat rewards!), and he already knows how to “come,” “sit,” “stay,” “shake,” “high five,” and lie “down!” Jason is an active fellow who loves to play fetch with squeaky toys and soft-textured balls! He also loves to play with other dogs, and he is fantastic with the other dogs at the doggy daycare he attends! Jason has a very exuberant play style, so his ideal canine housemate would need to have the energy and enthusiasm to keep up with him. Though Jason is energetic, he also loves to relax with his people (and his favorite toy or chew bone!) after a rousing romp outside! He adores cuddling and having his belly rubbed! Jason seems to be housebroken, and he rides very nicely in the car! Jason is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because he can be mouthy when he doesn’t get adequate exercise and attention. He requires daily exercise so he can release his energy in a positive way and consistent training in order to be on his best behavior. Jason would do best in a home with a fenced yard where he could enjoy daily off-leash exercise, and with a high-spirited canine companion or two with whom to run and play. He is available to families with children ages 10 and up. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet handsome Jason.

CAHS #: D08-178659

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 2 years

  Breed: Lab Mix

Weight: 56 lbs

Wilson is a great dog with very high energy and will need an owner willing to work on teaching him some manners. He appears to have acne on his chin (you know teenagers). Actually, it's possible that he is allergic to plastic so he will have to eat and drink out of stainless steel dishes. Wilson LOVES tennis balls and to play in water. He would probably do best as the only dog in his new home. Meet fun and playful Wilson in room F.

  Name: BATMAN

CAHS #: D08-177484

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 1 year

  Breed: Pit Bull

Weight: 55 lbs

Batman has it all—beauty, brains and a shining personality! This beefcake is an athletic, young boy who seems to have springs in his hindquarters and a motor in his tail. For reasons we'll never quite know, Batman's previous owner abandoned him in an old garage. Even though his trusty sidekick Robin left him high and dry in the Batcave (ok, it was just a garage), it's evident that someone loved this wiggle-butt, took great care of him and taught him a few tricks before they parted company. Batman goes potty outdoors when given the chance and is familiar with a leash (though this strapping beau may not know his own strength at times!). This guy is happy and outgoing with new people (including children) and takes every opportunity to wag-wag-wag for new-found friends. Batman is an affectionate dog and loves to give sloppy dog kisses. Given the above, (Batman's size, energy level and love of planting kisses on his people's faces--really, he's quite accurate!), Batman may be too much dog for families with small children who could be unintentionally knocked down by Mr. Exuberance. As far as other dogs, Batman loves to see other dogs on walks and is currently attending training class to help keep his mind on his handler a bit more so he can be the best canine citizen. In a multi-dog home setting, Batman would do best with a canine companion that shares his personality traits like enthusiasm, confidence and ample energy (no cats, pelase). Since this guy is about as smart and fast as they come, we're looking for an experienced owner to show him the ropes. Some of Batman's favorite activities include hanging with his volunteer buds for scratches and cookies, de-squeaking stuffed toys and having the theme song to "Batman" sung to him. Batman is a member of the Bully Breed Program and, as such, there are some special adoption requirements that must be met. Capital Area has Bully Breed classes that are free for Bully Program alumni and a great way to start off on the right paw with your new best friend. To arrange to meet Batman or to learn more about him, please contact Amanda.Spires@gmail.com. (Special thanks to Anna Cluxton for snapping these lovely pictures of Batman and putting up with his silly antics during the shoot!)

  Name: LARRY

CAHS #: D08-176546

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 2 years

  Breed: Beagle/Chow mix

Weight: 58 lbs

Larry was rescued from the home of a hoarder in Perry County who abandoned him along with many other dogs and a cat, and he is looking for a family to provide him with the loving care he so deserves. Larry is a sweet, friendly, wonderfully loving boy who loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed! He adores receiving all kinds of attention from his people, whether that means walking, playing, lounging together, or even being brushed! Larry is intelligent and responsive, and he already knows how to “sit” and “beg!” He loves to practice his commands and learn new ones, especially when he is working for something wonderful to eat! Larry loves to make new friends of both the human and canine varieties, and he loves to play with other dogs (he is wonderful with the other dogs at the dog park he attends!). Happy Larry loves to play in the pond at the dog park, and (as demonstrated from his “after” photo!) he never lets rainy days get him down – instead he has a great time romping in the mud! He also adores relaxing with his people, and he can be quite a mellow guy when he has the chance to just hang out with his friends! Larry walks nicely on a leash. He is doing very well with his housetraining at the shelter, but because he came from such an unhappy environment, his new family should provide him with a consistent, positive housetraining routine to ensure the precious boy’s success. Larry is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because of the nervousness he exhibited when he arrived at CAHS. He is working with our volunteers to overcome this, and he is doing great! He has blossomed into a happy love bug of a boy! Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet wonderful Larry.

  Name: DESERT ROSE

CAHS #: D08-179255

  Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 8 months

  Breed: Lab Mix

Weight: 23 lbs

Desert Rose’s family had too many animals to care for her properly, so she came to CAHS to find a family to love and care for her forever. Desert Rose (better known as “Rosie”) is a friendly, happy, loving puppy who loves to cuddle and be massaged! She is wonderful with people of all ages – she lived beautifully with the young children in her previous home! She also lived well with the 2 dogs and the cat in her former household, and she’s been great with the dogs she’s met at CAHS! Rosie is an active young lady who loves to run and play! Her favorite activities (along with snuggling, which still ranks high!) are playing fetch and playing in the water (she loves to romp in rivers and ponds, and she is adorable playing in the baby pool in the CAHS dog run, as her photos attest!). Rosie loves to take walks, and she is also a very good running companion! She would do best in a home with a fenced yard, where she could enjoy plenty of daily off-leash exercise. Rosie loves to ride in the car! She is a bright puppy who adores learning new things! She already knows how to “sit,” and she is learning how to “stay!” Rosie is crate trained and almost completely housetrained (her former family reported that she always went to the door to tell them when she needed to go out, but sometimes had accidents if they didn’t notice when she tried to catch their attention). As is the case with all young canine kids, she will need a consistent, positive housetraining routine to maintain her success. Like most growing puppies, Rosie will need plenty of toys to keep her busy so that she won’t feel obliged to chew things that do not belong to her. Rosie is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she has some physical traits that resemble those of Pit Bull Terriers, though that does not appear to be her predominant breed. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet darling Desert Rose.

  Name: SANDY

CAHS #: D08-178095

  Sex: Spayed Female

Age: 2 years

  Breed: Golden Retriever/Shetland Sheepdog mix

Weight: 38 lbs

Sandy was rescued from a neglectful home by our humane officers, and she is looking for a family to provide her with the loving care she so deserves. Sandy is happy, friendly, affectionate, and wonderfully responsive! She is very bright, and she loves to practice her commands and learn new things (especially when she is working for delicious treat rewards!). Sandy has already mastered the directives “come,” “sit,” and lie “down,” and she continues to increase her repertoire of new behaviors! Sandy is an active, agile girl who loves to run and play! She would do best in a home with a fenced yard, where she could enjoy plenty of daily off-leash exercise. Sandy enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs, and she is not picky about their sizes as long as they are friendly in return! Sandy appears to be housetrained, however, due to the unpleasant environment from which she came, she will benefit from a consistent, positive housetraining routine. Sandy is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because she tested as having food aggression when she arrived at CAHS. She is working with our volunteers to overcome this, and she is doing great! She does not display any aggression even when her human friends pet her lovely face and head as she eats, place their hands in her food bowl and her mouth while she is eating, or take her food bowl away from her! Sandy is available to families with children ages 8 and up. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet sweet Sandy.

  Name: PETIE

CAHS #: D08-80130

  Sex: Neutered Male

Age: 8 years

  Breed: CHIHUAHUA

Weight: 9 lbs

Petie’s family was moving and could not take him along, so he came to CAHS to find a family to love and care for him forever. Petie is a sweet boy who is a bit timid with new people (though he is always curious about and interested in them!), but he warms up to people who take the time to get to know him. He lived with a very young child in his previous home, but he wasn’t always comfortable around the feisty youngster. Petie also lived nicely with the dogs and the cat in his former household! The darling boy is nervous around dogs he does not know, however, so his new family will need to use positive reinforcement to help him become comfortable with any other dogs in their home. Petie is housetrained and crate trained. He loves to ride in the car, and he is a very well-behaved passenger! Some of Petie’s other favorite activities are cuddling in his person’s lap, taking walks, and playing fetch with soft squeaky toys. He also adores working for yummy treats, and he already knows how to “sit,” “stay,” and “beg!” Petie is a member of the Special Adoptables Program because of the nervousness he exhibited when he arrived at CAHS. He is working with our volunteers to overcome this, and he is doing great! His new family will need to provide him with ongoing socialization and exposure to new places and things using lots of positive reinforcement. Petie is available to families with calm children ages 8 and up. Please e-mail specialadoptables@cahs-pets.org to arrange to meet adorable Petie.
